A young boy was shot early Tuesday morning at a DeKalb apartment complex.

Officers were called to the Wesley Club Apartments around 3 a.m. and found the boy, whose identity is not yet released, suffering from a gunshot wound.

He was taken to the hospital where his condition is currently unknown. The motive of the shooting is also currently unknown and no information was provided about possible suspects.

The Wesley Club Apartments are one of over 200 apartment complexes in Atlanta listed under the AJC’s “Dangerous Dwellings” for high crime rates.

“Georgia law requires apartment complexes to take reasonable steps to protect their residents from crime,” says Atlanta Lawyer, Bradley Pratt.  “When repeated violent crimes occur at a complex, and the complex has failed to take steps to secure safety, the complex owner and manager might be legally responsible to the victims.  It is unacceptable that Wesley Club Apartments failed its residents so severely here. How many more people need to be shot before they take action that the law requires?”

Officers reported 30 violent crimes at this location between 2017-2022. The crimes include homicide, robbery, aggravated assault, and rape.
