A man was killed in a wreck involving two tractor-trailers on Ga. 365 in Hall Co.
The accident occurred shortly before 3:15 a.m. on Wednesday, May 24th, according to the Hall County Sheriff’s Department, near White Sulphur Road.
In the report released by the Georgia State Patrol, a large truck was headed north in the left lane of Ga. 365, approaching a stopped tractor-trailer.
“The driver of the box truck swerved to the right to avoid striking the tractor-trailer but was unable to avoid the collision,” the Georgia State Patrol report said.
When the box truck struck the right rear area of the truck, 43-year-old Fidell Deshun Lightfoot was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
“Driver schedules that push commercial truck drivers past their limits are not just dangerous, they are illegal.” Said trucking lawyer Bradley Pratt. “The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations require companies and truck drivers to limit their driving hours for safety and to avoid fatigue. The regulations also strictly require flares or cones along with hazard lights when trucks are stopped in the roadway in the dark to warn other drivers of the dangerous hazard. When they fail to follow these Regs, the results can be deadly.”
The northbound lanes of the highway were closed for an extended period of time shortly after the accident.
