A deadly wreck involving a car and a tractor-trailer occurred on I-85 in Gwinnett County on Thursday, June 22.

The Georgia State Patrol said the big rig was traveling north near Buford Rd at about 6:30 a.m. when it struck a stalled Kia Soul at the driver’s side.

The only occupant of the Kia, 56-year-old Misteriana Rios Martinez, was pronounced dead at the scene.

“It’s disturbing how often commercial truck crashes could have been prevented by better training, better supervision, and simply following the federal regulations,” trucking lawyer, Bradley Pratt states. “Most trucking companies do a good job following the rules, but a significant minority do not – with deadly results.”

Traffic was brought to a halt for nearly four hours as emergency crews worked to investigate and clear the wreck.

This investigation is currently ongoing.
